Focus Features LLC is an American independent film production and distribution company, owned by Comcast as a division of Universal Pictures, which is itself a division of its wholly owned subsidiary of NBCUniversal. Focus Features distributes independent and foreign films in the United States and internationally. Focus Features was formed in 2002 by James Schamus and David Linde and formed from the divisional merger of USA Films, Universal Focus and Good Machine, as well as the several assets of the Vivendi-affiliated film studio StudioCanal. Feature films released under the Touchstone label were produced and financed by Walt Disney Studios, and featured more mature themes targeted at adult audiences than typical Walt Disney Pictures films. As such, Touchstone was merely a pseudonym label for the studio and did not exist as a distinct business operation. Established on February 15, 1984, by then-Disney CEO Ron W. Miller as Touchstone Films, Touchstone operated as an active film production division of Disney during the 1980s through the early 2010s, releasing a majority of the studio's PG-13 and R-rated films. the Touchstone Pictures banner known as that since 1986, with Tough Guys. In 2009, Disney entered into a five-year, thirty-picture distribution deal with DreamWorks Pictures under which DreamWorks' productions would be released through the Touchstone banner; the label then distributed DreamWorks' films from 2011 to 2016.Following the release of The Light Between Oceans, the final film of the DreamWorks deal, the Touchstone label became defunct. Amblin is named after Spielberg's first commercially released film, Amblin' (1968), a short independent film about a man and woman hitchhiking through the desert. Costing $15,000 to produce, it was shown for Universal Studios and won Spielberg more directing roles. The company was established a year later, in 1969, and it was properly incorporated in 1970. On July 14, 1975, Spielberg signed a four-picture agreement with Universal Pictures to produce its feature films through his Amblin label, aiming to build upon the success of its first two theatrical pictures The Sugarland Express and Jaws. Although Amblin is an independent production company, Universal distributes many Amblin productions, and Amblin operates out of a building on the Universal lot. Amblin produced its first film Continental Divide in 1981, with Spielberg serving as executive producer. According to Amblin Entertainment website, the following films were also created in corporations with the company. DreamWorks Animation LLC (DWA) (also known as DreamWorks Animation Studios or simply DreamWorks) is an American animation studio owned by Universal Pictures, a division of NBCUniversal, which is itself a subsidiary of Comcast. The studio has released a total of 48 feature films, including several of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, with Shrek 2 (2004) having been the highest at the time of its release. Its first film, Antz, was released on October 2, 1998. Formed as a division of DreamWorks Pictures in 1994 with alumni from Amblin Entertainment's former animation branch Amblimation, it was spun off into a separate company in 2004. NBCUniversal acquired DreamWorks Animation at a cost of $3.8 billion in 2016. The studio originally made some traditionally animated films, as well as three stop-motion co-productions with Aardman Animations, but now exclusively relies on computer animation. However, in 2022, president Margie Cohn stated that the studio is open to traditional animation. Its productions, including The Prince of Egypt, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and the Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon franchises, have received various accolades, including three Academy Awards, 41 Emmy Awards, numerous Annie Awards, and multiple Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. Films produced by DreamWorks Animation were originally distributed by DreamWorks Pictures until 2005. Paramount Pictures distributed its releases from 2006 through 2012, and 20th Century Fox (currently known as 20th Century Studios) did the same from 2013 through 2017. Most DWA films from 2019 onward have been released through Universal Pictures, which also owns most of the rights to its back catalogue.

Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation (LGEC) was formed in 1997 by Frank Giustra, a banker.[10] LGEC purchased Cinépix and kept its leadership. Cinépix was renamed Lions Gate Films on January 13, 1998. LGEC also purchased the Vancouver-based North Shore Studios, which became Lions Gate Studios. The film – directed by David Schmoeller – featured a collection of deadly puppets, and struck a chord with horror fans. Although the film was produced on a meagre budget, Puppet Master became a cult favourite amongst the horror scene. In turn, the film quickly spawned a series of follow-ups, taking the franchise into new places. As the Puppet Master franchise developed, it expanded to include a mix of sequels, spin-offs, a crossover, and a reboot. Over time, the timeline of the series has become a little confusing, but since its inception the Puppet Master films have remained one of the most enduring horror franchises of all-time.

Searchlight Pictures is an American film production and distribution arm of Walt Disney Studios, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company's Disney Entertainment division. Founded in 1994 as Fox Searchlight Pictures for 20th Century Fox (later 20th Century Studios), the studio focuses primarily on producing, distributing, and acquiring specialty films. Searchlight is known for distributing the films Slumdog Millionaire, 12 Years a Slave, Birdman, The Shape of Water, and Nomadland, all of which have won an Academy Award for Best Picture. The studio has grossed over $5.3 billion worldwide and amassed 51 Academy Awards, 30 Golden Globe Awards, and 56 BAFTA awards. Slumdog Millionaire is the studio's largest commercial success, with over $377 million (US) of box office receipts, against a production budget of only $15 million. Searchlight Pictures was one of the 21st Century Fox film production companies that was acquired by Disney in 2019. The studio's current name was adopted in order to avoid confusion with Fox Corporation. Compared to 20th Century Studios, whose distribution operations have folded into Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Searchlight retains its autonomous distribution unit. As of November 2019, FX Networks and Fox Searchlight were assigned to supply Hulu with content. On January 17, 2020, it was announced that the "Fox" name would be dropped from several of the Fox assets that were acquired by Disney, shortening the company's name to "Searchlight Pictures", in order to avoid brand confusion with Fox Corporation. I have avoided horror movies with murderous hillbilly/mutant families (such as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Wrong Turn," and "The Hills Have Eyes") as they are too obviously dysfunctional. Instead, I have tried to stick to family dramas and comedies, centered around family gatherings for the most part, with a couple of suspense/thrillers thrown in.

My Nature Horror movie collection. Natural horror is a subgenre of horror films that features natural forces,[1] typically in the form of animals or plants, that pose a threat to human characters. Though killer animals in film have existed since the release of The Lost World in 1925,[2] two of the first motion pictures to garner mainstream success with a "nature run amok" premise were The Birds, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and released in 1963; and Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1975. Following Jaws, numerous horror films of a similar narrative were produced, including Grizzly (1976), Piranha (1978), and Alligator (1980).[3]

Patricia Highsmith has inspired several notable film adaptations with her characters wrapped in intrigue and suspense. Among them, "Strangers on a Train" from 1951, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, who explores the deadly consequences of a criminal pact between two strangers. Another famous adaptation is "The Talent of Mr. Ripley" from 1999, which follows the machinations of Tom Ripley, a cunning and ambitious young man, in the picturesque setting of Italy. In addition, "Ripley under the water" of 2005 continues the adventures of a more mature and calculating Ripley in the quiet French countryside. These films reflect Highsmith's mastery in creating plots full of tension and complex characters.

Savoy Pictures Entertainment, Inc. was an American independent motion picture company that operated from 1992 to 1997. Among Savoy Pictures' noteworthy feature films were No Escape, and Last of the Dogmen. Former Columbia Pictures Entertainment chairman and TriStar Pictures founder Victor A. Kaufman became chairman and chief executive officer of Savoy Pictures in 1992 along with vice chairman executive, Lewis J. Korman. Kaufman has claimed that the name came from the Savoy Special bat Robert Redford's character used in The Natural. Savoy intended to finance and distribute films in the $12–25 million range, investing in up to $15 million per film. In 1995 Savoy announced the sale of 14 films in its roster, in varying stages of production, to potential buyers. New Line Cinema picked up Martin Lawrence's directorial debut A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, American History X, The Adventures of Pinocchio, Heaven's Prisoners, Faithful, and The Stupids. Paramount Pictures picked up the rights to produce A Simple Plan. Savoy Pictures announced in November 1995 that Barry Diller's Silver King Communications was going to acquire Savoy for $210 million. The deal was finalized in 1997. Victor Kaufman is now vice chairman and sits on the board of directors of IAC. The SF stations were sold to Diller's Silver King Broadcasting in 1997. Cineplex Odeon Films was the Canadian distributor for Savoy films, then Alliance Films became the Canadian distributor after New Line Cinema picked up the later films from 1996. In 2006, the Savoy library was purchased by Universal Studios through Focus Features, with the exceptions of a few select titles. Warner Bros. Discovery owns the titles produced by New Line Cinema, while Paramount Global owns the titles produced by Rysher Entertainment, Pathé Films owns the rights to No Escape via Allied Filmmakers, Robert De Niro owns the rights to The Bronx Tale, and Joel B. Michaels owns the rights to Last of the Dogmen. Missing from list Bleeding Hearts 1995 Let It Be Me 1995

Scooby-Doo is an American media franchise owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment and created in 1969 by writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears through their animated series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, for Hanna-Barbera (which was absorbed into Warner Bros. Animation in 2001). The series features four teenagers: Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers, and their talking Great Dane named Scooby-Doo, who solve mysteries involving supposedly supernatural creatures through a series of antics and missteps, while traveling using a brightly colored van called the "Mystery Machine". The franchise has several live-action films and shows. Scooby-Doo was originally broadcast on CBS from 1969 to 1976, when it moved to ABC. ABC aired various versions of Scooby-Doo until canceling it in 1986, and presented a spin-off featuring the characters as children called A Pup Named Scooby-Doo from 1988 until 1991. Two Scooby-Doo reboots aired as part of Kids' WB on The WB and its successor The CW from 2002 until 2008. Further reboots were produced for Cartoon Network beginning in 2010 and continuing through 2018. Repeats of the various Scooby-Doo series are frequently broadcast on Cartoon Network's sister channel Boomerang in the United States and other countries. The most recent Scooby-Doo series, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, premiered on June 27, 2019, as an original series on Boomerang's streaming service and later HBO Max. In 2013, TV Guide ranked Scooby-Doo the fifth-greatest TV cartoon of all time.

Dimension Films is an American inactive independent film and television production and distribution company owned by Lantern Entertainment. It was created in 1992. It was formerly used as Harvey and Bob Weinstein's label within Miramax, which was acquired by The Walt Disney Company on June 30, 1993, and it later became a part of The Weinstein Company (TWC) from 2005 until 2018. The company produces and releases independent films and genre titles, specifically horror and science fiction films. The Weinsteins took the Dimension label with them when they separated from Miramax on October 1, 2005, and paired it under their new company, The Weinstein Company (TWC). Dimension Films was one of the American "mini-majors", i.e., small to medium independent television and motion picture production studios. However, the firing of Harvey Weinstein following allegations of sexual harassment and rape against him, as well as financial troubles that followed, led to the company's decline. The studio eventually declared bankruptcy in February 2018, with independent studio Lantern Entertainment acquiring a majority of its film library and assets. The company was shut down on July 16, 2018.All films released by Dimension Films before 2005 (which are shared by Miramax) are currently owned and distributed by Paramount Pictures through Paramount Global's acquisition of a 49% stake in Miramax that was closed on April 3, 2020. All films through October 1, 2005, are currently owned by Paramount Pictures via Miramax while all films since October 1, 2005, are currently owned by Lantern Entertainment and Lionsgate via Spyglass Media Group.

Cinema has been a powerful tool to address complex social issues, and abortion is one of the most delicate and controversial. Over the years, numerous international films have explored this topic from various cultural, legal and emotional perspectives. From intense dramas to more subtle stories, these films not only reflect the realities and dilemmas associated with abortion, but also invite reflection and dialogue on reproductive rights, bodily autonomy and the social and personal implications of this decision. Among the most outstanding titles is "The Cider House Rules", which addresses the issue of abortion in the context of a society that struggles to define morality and ethics around this practice. Other films such as "Vera Drake" and "4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days" offer a raw and realistic view of the difficulties and dangers faced by women in environments where abortion is illegal or stigmatized. This list of films offers a deep and multifaceted look at the subject of abortion, providing a valuable resource to understand the various dimensions of this complex social issue.

Unlike traditional, good guy cowboys (the John Wayne types), the Man With No Name is an outsider, shrouded in mystery. He plays by his own rules, and makes decisions that will benefit himself, according to his own views of justice or questionable morals.

The New Spanish Independent Cinema is a vibrant and creative current within the Spanish film industry, characterized by its innovative and often experimental approach. These films tend to move away from conventional commercial productions, choosing to explore deep and personal themes with a distinctive style. The filmmakers of this movement usually work with tighter budgets, which encourages a more intimate and artisanal approach to making films. The New Spanish Independent Cinema not only seeks to tell unique stories, but also to give voice to less represented perspectives and communities, addressing social, political and cultural issues in an authentic and provocative way. This cinema has earned recognition both nationally and internationally, standing out for its ability to connect emotionally with the public and for its visual and narrative audacity.

TriStar Pictures, Inc. (spelled as Tri-Star until 1991) is an American film studio and production company that is a member of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, part of the multinational conglomerate Sony. It is a corporate sibling of Sony studio Columbia Pictures. TriStar Pictures was established on March 2, 1982, and founded by Victor Kaufman as Nova Pictures. On May 16, 1983, its name was changed to Tri-Star in order to avoid confusion with the PBS series Nova During the 1990s, TriStar operated autonomously from Columbia. Although its products were mostly indistinguishible from that of its sister studio, it soon scored a string of hits at the box office with such films as Sleepless in Seattle, Philadelphia, The Mirror Has Two Faces, Jerry Maguire, As Good as It Gets and Jumanji, and it also scored a major video hit with Danny DeVito's Matilda. However, in 1998, the company fell on hard times following the box office disappointment of an ambitious remake of the Japanese monster film Godzilla, and Sony quickly responded by merging the studio with Columbia to form the Columbia TriStar Motion Pictures Group. The TriStar name was subsequently used by Sony on a very limited basis until 2004, when the company decided to turn the studio into a genre label that specialized in acquisitions. In 2015, Sony formed TriStar Productions as a vehicle for film and television productions. TriStar Pictures is currently being used as a vehicle for distribution of products from that new entity and other items from Sony Pictures, including titles from Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions. Spyglass Media Group, LLC (formerly Spyglass Entertainment) is an independent film and television production and finance company founded by Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum in 1998. On December 20, 2010, Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum became co-chairmen and CEOs of the holding company of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), which had at that time recently emerged from bankruptcy. The original plan had the Spyglass library being added to MGM, but it was later removed from the plan. On March 13, 2019, Barber and Lantern Entertainment revived the company as Spyglass Media Group, bringing in Eagle Pictures and Cineworld as investors. Lantern made a majority investment and also transferred its film library and rights to Miramax film sequels to the Spyglass. Barber owns the Spyglass trademark and the sequel and remake rights to the old Spyglass library, which he has contributed. The company plans to produce content for all platforms. Spyglass closed the former Lantern Entertainment/TWC office in New York City while laying off 15 staff members across divisions.

Kassar and Vajna ran Carolco together until 1989, when Vajna left to form Cinergi Pictures. 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks is the production company of Spike Lee, founded in 1979. The company name is a reference to the phrase most often used to refer to the early Reconstruction period policy and episode of events, in which certain recently emancipated black families on the Georgia coast were given lots of land no larger than 40 acres (160,000 m2) and in some cases surplus army mules. The order, issued in 1865 by General Sherman as "Special Field Order 15", was later revoked by Andrew Johnson, and the land was taken away from the freed slaves and returned to previous owners. The company has produced all of Lee's films, starting in 1986 with She's Gotta Have It. In the late 1980s, the company sought a partnership with Universal Pictures, which was reupped in September 1992, and stayed on for five years, which lasted until March 2, 1997, when it was moved to Columbia Pictures. Sam Kitt was named president of production at the Sony-based studio on June 18, 1997. In 2004, the company moved all of its operations to New York City with headquarters on South Elliott Place in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. In December 2021, the company had signed a multi-year creative partnership with Netflix to develop their film and television projects. Missing from list Cronies 2015 Pass Over 2018

TSG Pictures (also known as The Shooting Gallery) was a film production company established in 1990 by Bob Gosse, Larry Meistrich, Larry Russo, Whitney Ransick, Christopher Walsh, Eli Kabillio, Daniel Silverman and David Tuttle in association with Hal Hartley, Ted Hope, Nick Gomez and Michael Almereyda. Larry Meistrich was key in raising financing for the newly found film consortium. Its mission was to nurture New York City filmmakers to make director-driven pictures. Meistrich brought into the firm Steve Carlis to share financial oversight responsibilities and bring in new funding sources. An important participant in the New York independent film industry of the 1990s, associated with fellow New York City director-driven production companies including Good Machine, Killer Films, it produced a number of critically successful films. It was financially powered mostly by two significant business successes, Laws of Gravity (1992) and Sling Blade (1996). It was also noted for its Shooting Gallery Film Series of art-house releases. The company expanded and pursued a variety of business models including ventures in the new media sector, ultimately failing in 2001 under the weight of expenses and debts.Reports of its closure were as early as June.
